Better guesses in football quizzes
Use every clue, narrow down the options and understand repeated letters.
The best guess uses what the board has already told you. You do not need to remember every footballer. Start with a few names, then rule out anyone who no longer fits.
Start with a player you know
Choose someone whose club, league, nationality and position you remember. Their row gives you a useful starting point. If the clues suggest a defender, try defenders next. Another famous forward is unlikely to help if you already know the answer plays in defence.
Use all the clues together
Imagine eight possible players. The correct league leaves four. A clue saying “not France” leaves two. An age arrow saying “older than 24” leaves one. Each new clue makes the list smaller.
Your next guess must fit every clue. A player who matches the league but fails the nationality clue is still wrong. Playing for a French club does not make a player French.

- 4possible League: England
- 2possible Nationality: not France
- 1possible Age: older than 24
Watch repeated letters
In Player Guess, check where letters belong and how many copies are present. Suppose the answer is ROJAS and you guess ROSSI. R and O are correct. One S belongs elsewhere; the other S and the I are absent.
That grey second S means there is no extra S. It does not cancel the yellow S. Keep the confirmed letters and try a valid footballer surname that fits the pattern.
Illustrative answer: ROJAS Guess: ROSSI
- RRight place
- ORight place
- SElsewhere
- SNo extra S
- INot present
